Another football recruit decommits from Lions

When Penn State was sporting a top five recruiting class in the summer, it was apparent holding on to all its blue-chippers was going to be almost as tough a task as getting them to commit in the first place.

Just how difficult has played out over the last five.

First, Michigan four-star cornerback Lavert Hill decommitted in late November. That gut punch was followed with a roundhouse to the head Thursday with the news that one of the highest-rated players still in the fold, Philadelphia defensive tackle Karamo Dioubate, also has decided to go elsewhere, according to reports from BlueWhite Illustrated and Lions247.

Dioubate’s decommitment leaves the Nittany Lions with 18 verbal pledges with about a month until signing day.

Dioubate was a four-star prospect from Prep Charter School and considered to have tremendous upside. He recently was named to the Pennsylvania Sports Writers Class AA all-state team and the Pennsylvania Big 33 squad.

There were smoke signals concerning Dioubate a few weeks ago when he unexpectedly took an official visit to Auburn. Then word broke that he was planning to visit Michigan State on Jan. 22, the day the Penn State staff had earmarked for all of the committed players and several top uncommitted prospects to converge as a group at University Park.

Dioubate now appears to be looking at the Tigers and Spartans, along with South Carolina and Ohio State. Penn State no longer seems to be in the picture.

Defensive tackle was considered an area of need in this class, and Dioubate is the second player at the position who had committed to the Lions who will not be part of the class – North Carolina’s Christian Colon and Penn State had a parting of ways early in the fall.
