Lady Lions handed loss No. 19

UNIVERSITY PARK – The Penn?State women’s basketball team fell to 6-19 overall Wednesday night, thanks to a 74-67 setback to Big Ten foe Michigan State at the Jordan?Center.

Penn?State fell to 3-11 in the league while Michigan State (12-13) improved to 4-10 in the league.

The Spartans raced out to an early 17-3 advantage over the first five minutes and took an 11-point lead into the half.

That lead held midway through the second half before the Lady Lions used a 13-2 scoring spurt, capped by a Keke Sevillian 3-pointer from in front of the Penn State bench, to knot the game at 57-57 with 9:42 to play.

However, the Spartans answered with eight straight points to retake the lead and eventually hold off the home team with late free throws.

Freshman Lindsay Spann scored 13 points for her 21st double-digit scoring performance of the season.

Spann posted career highs with seven assists and seven rebounds.

Sophomore Kaliyah Mitchell posted her ninth double-digit scoring performance of the season with 13 points to go along with six rebounds and a steal. It is the seventh time this season that Mitchell has recorded at least 10 points and pulled in at least five rebounds in a game.

Another 10-point, five-rebound effort from Candice Agee highlighted the post play for Penn State.

Agee also added three blocks to push her career total to 80, making her just the 16th player in school history to reach the 80-block plateau in a career.

Michigan State’s Aerial Powers led all scorers with 26 points, while Tori Jankoska collected a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Lions host Minnesota on Sunday at 2 p.m.
