Scarlet Dragons get by Blue Devils in opener

ORE HILL – Seth Gunnett (93) and Cordell Bowser (94) helped Central win its season opener over Bellwood-Antis, 394-402, in high school golf action Thursday at Iron Masters.

Bellwood’s Adam Osbourne was the medalist, finishing with an 82.

CENTRAL (394): Gunnett 93, Bowser 94, Wierman 103, Brumbaugh 104.

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Penn State women’s volleyball has been tabbed the Big Ten favorite in the 2014 Preseason Coaches’ Poll.

The top ranking marks the ninth time in the last 10 years that the Nittany Lions have been voted No. 1 in the preseason standings.

The 16-time defending Big Ten champions have more honorees than any other conference team for the second consecutive year. Senior setter Micha Hancock highlights a trio of selections as a unanimous selection. She is joined by senior middle hitter Nia Grant and junior outside hitter Megan Courtney.

Hancock capped off the 2013 season with NCAA tournament Most Outstanding Player honors following a clutch performance from the service line in the national finals.
