Lions, Hokies to play at BJC
UNIVERSITY PARK – Virginia Tech will visit the Bryce Jordan Center for the 2014 ACC/Ten Challenge on the final day of the three-night annual event presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods, Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Tip times and networks will be announced by ESPN in August.
ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will combine to televise all 14 games of the three-day event matching top college basketball programs playing for conference supremacy and the Commissioners Cup. All 14 games will also be available via WatchESPN.
Three of the games will feature a showdown between teams ranked in an ESPN.com early preseason top 25 poll: No. 2 Duke at No. 4 Wisconsin, No. 25 Iowa at No. 6 North Carolina and No. 21 Syracuse at No. 24 Michigan. Additional teams in the Challenge that made the poll include No. 7 Virginia, No. 8 Louisville and No. 18 Michigan State.
All 14 Big Ten teams and 14 of the 15 ACC teams will participate in the 2014 Challenge.
Pitt in Challenge
GREENSBORO, N.C.-ESPN and the Atlantic Coast Conference jointly announced on Thursday that Pitt will travel to Indiana as part of the 16th annual 2014 ACC/Big Ten Basketball Challenge Presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods.
Pitt will play at Indiana on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind. The contest will be televised on one of the ESPN family of networks: ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU.
Pitt and Indiana will meet for the ninth time in history with the series tied at 4-4. The last time Pitt played at Indiana was 73 years ago on Dec. 26, 1941. Pitt and Indiana last met in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 8, 2009. The two schools also faced each other in the 2003 NCAA Tournament in Boston, a 74-52 Panthers victory.
The ACC leads its all-time series against the Big Ten with a 10-3-2 overall record. In 2013, the two conferences tied in the event for the second consecutive season, with each league claiming six games apiece.
Eight of the 15 challenges have been decided by one win or less. All 14 Big Ten teams and 14 of the 15 ACC teams will participate in the 2014 Challenge. Last year, Pitt defeated Penn State, 78-69, in its first game in the event.
