Coatesville corner Worley verbally commits to Lions

After loading up on receivers with its first half-dozen 2014 recruits, Penn State began to address the defense on Friday when it received a verbal commitment from Coatesville cornerback Daquan Worley.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Worley picked the Nittany Lions over Rutgers and Georgia Tech. He also had a BCS-level scholarship offer from Pitt.

Worley had been expected to commit to Penn State several days ago but postponed his announcement to make sure of things. He’s the seventh recruit in this class and the second on the defensive side of the ball, joining Delaware linebacker Troy Reeder.

Worley had 45 tackles and three interceptions last year as the Red Raiders advanced all the way to the PIAA Class AAAA championship game. Considered a good athlete, he rushed for nearly 1,800 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2012 and also is considered a threat as a return man.

Penn State is thought to be in the market for two or three defensive backs in this class. Aliquippa’s Dravon Henry, Gateway’s Montae Nicholson and Maryland’s Troy Vincent Jr. and Marcus Allen are considered the primary targets on which to keep an eye as it looks to fill those slots.
