PSU LB transfers
Redshirt freshman linebacker Brennan Franklin has left Penn State to attend a junior college closer to his home in Arizona, it was announced on Monday via social media.
Franklin joined the Nittany Lions in July, just before fall practice began. From Centennial High School in Peoria, Franklin was a productive scholastic player but not considered a major-impact recruit.
He becomes the second player with eligibility remaining to leave the football program since the end of the season. At his press conference on Monday, Lion coach Bill O’Brien announced that running back Curtis Dukes had not come back to the team but that he wasn’t aware of any other players leaving.
Penn State must drop to 65 scholarship players on its roster for the 2014 season as part of NCAA sanctions stemming from the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal. Teams usually are permitted to have 85 scholarship players.
