Newman powers Bucs to win over Phillies
BRADENTON, Fla — Adam Frazier led off the bottom of the first with a home run blast off of Jake Arietta, his second of this spring season, in what was an 11-2 stomping of Philadephia in Grapefruit League action on Thursday afternoon.
Trevor Williams allowed one run and three hits in five innings of action for the Pirates, and Kevin Newman went 3-for-4 with a double, homer, three RBIs and a stolen base.
Corey Dickerson, who has gone 8-for-14 at the plate this spring, was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer as the designated hitter for Pittsburgh the first six innings. Starling Marte was 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBIs and a stolen base.
The Pirates are back in action tonight in Bradenton against Tampa Bay. First pitch with the Rays is at 6:05 p.m..
