Pirates host AL West clubs in 2019

The Pittsburgh Pirates released their 2019 regular-season schedule Wednesday, which will feature the Bucs opening the season in Cincinnati for three games beginning on Thursday, March 28.

It will mark the 30th time in club history that the Pirates will open the season against the Reds.

Following the season-opening series at Cincinnati, the Pirates will return to Pittsburgh for their home opener on Monday, April 1, at 1:05 p.m. vs. the St. Louis Cardinals. The Bucs will also host the Reds for four games during the first homestand of the year from April 5-7.

The Pirates will return to Williamsport on Sunday, Aug. 18 to take on the Chicago Cubs in the third annual Little League Classic. The Pirates hosted the St. Louis Cardinals in the inaugural Little League Classic in 2017.

The Pirates’ 2019 interleague schedule will feature visits by the Oakland A’s from May 3-5, the Texas Rangers on May 7-8, Detroit Tigers from June 18-19 and Seattle Mariners from September 17-19.

Other highlights of the 2019 regular season schedule also includes:

n July 1-7: The Pirates host National League Central rivals Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers leading up to the 2019 All-Star break. The July 4 game vs. the Cubs will mark the first time Pittsburgh has hosted Chicago on Independence Day since a doubleheader at Three Rivers Stadium in 1980.

n July 19-25: A seven-game homestand against cross-state rivals Philadelphia Phillies and division rivals Cardinals.

n August 2-7: A six-game homestand against the New York Mets and Brewers.

n August 16-25: The 10-game homestand against the Cubs, Washington Nationals and Reds will also feature the trip to Williamsport as the Pirates host the Cubs in the Little League Classic on Sunday, Aug.18.

n September 24-29: The Pirates host the Cubs and Reds for three games apiece to close out the 2019 regular season.
