Szapala keys win for Devils

EBENSBURG — Led by 31 assists and seven service points from Kiersten Szapala, Central Cambria won its season opener, 25-14, 25-17, 25-18 over visiting Bedford in high school girls volleyball action Wednesday night.

Maggie Kudlawiec had 16 digs, Cass Bezek compiled 12 digs, Liz Bopp had 14 kills, and Taylor Hritz had 10 service points for Central Cambria.

Riley Stahlman had five blocks and five kills, Anna Woodring scored five kills, and Natalie Lippincott had five service points for Bedford (0-1).

Duo powers Guilfoyle

SOMERSET — Lyzee Wilson recorded 25 kills and Emily Kasun added 18 service points and 46 assists to lead Bishop Guilfoyle to a 25-19, 25-15, 17-25, 25-18 victory over Somerset in the Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference.

Amelia Partner had 12 service points and 13 digs for the Lady Marauders, and Teresa Haigh had 10 kills. Raven Crriscitello also added 16 digs for BG.

Sara Muriceak contributed 26 assists and 18 digs for the Lady Huskies.

Devils topple Highlanders

EBENSBURG — Central Cambria won its home opener thanks to two goals from Corey Roberts.

Ryan Hunt and Ben Young also scored for Central Cambria.

Seth Conway scored the Highlanders’ lone goal.

Bisons beat Panthers

BEDFORD — Braden Ford and Chase DeLong each scored as Bedford defeated Penn Cambria, 2-1.

Gabe Caninev scored for the Panthers in the 63rd minute to cut the deficit in half, but Bedford hung on to get the win.

Bearcats claw out win

CLEARFIELD — Andrew Buonaccorsi got an assist from James Buonaccorsi in the first half for the contest’s only goal to lift Huntingdon over Clearfield in a close Mountain League game late Tuesday.

The Bearcats picked up their first win of the season, and are now 1-1.
