Scholastic digest: Sarver’s two goals help Altoona soccer win opener

Morgan Sarver scored two goals to help the Altoona Area High School girls soccer team open the season with a 4-0 win over Shaler at Mansion Park on Friday.

Becca Dull and Cassie Kyle added goals for Altoona, and keeper Julia Lane had eight saves in recording the shutout.

DUNCANSVILLE– Keirsten Hileman scored the lone goal for Blair County Christian with an assist from Gabriella Dull in the 63rd minute, but the Lady Bobcats fell to Northumberland Christian, 10-1.

Golden Tigers advance

INDIANA — The Hollidaysburg Area High School boys soccer team moved to the championship of the Indiana Tournament with a 6-2 victory over Punxsutawney.

Jacob Roach scored four goals for Hollidaysburg, which plays host Indiana in today’s final.

Ryan Frank had a goal and two assists, Braden Callahan had a goal and an assist, and keeper Evan Shale had 12 saves.

LOYSBURG — Northern Bedford avoided a shutout with a goal from Evan Coffey, but lost to visiting Conestoga Christian, 4-1, in high school boys soccer action.

Levi Wiedemann had the assist on Coffey’s goal at 28:25.

Bobcats hang on

DUNCANSVILLE — Hudson Dull found the back of the net in the 76th minute off of a pass from Kort Sease to put Blair County Christian up for good in a 4-3 win in boys soccer.

Both Davis Dull and Hudson Dull each scored twice for the Bobcats, who improved to 3-0.

Altoona goes 1-1

SCRANTON — The Altoona Area High School girls tennis team went 1-1 on a road trip.

Altoona beat Scranton Prep, 5-0, but lost to Abington Heights, 3-2, in Clark Summit. Scranton Prep is the 10-time District 2 Class 2A team champ. Altoona’s record is now 4-1.

Emma Skelley won No. 3 singles in both matches, as did the No. 1 doubles team of Isabella Frank and Eve Hogan. Against Scranton Prep, Alese Rinker and Morgan Stevens won singles matches, and Sophia Caputo and Mya Crownover won a doubles match.
