Homan captures Park Hills Match Play title over Burd

Todd Homan won the Park Hills Match Play Event’s championship flight recently, edging out Terry Burd.

Damian Williams nipped John Koury in 19 holes to win the first flight, and Dr. Dave Cowger won the second flight with Leonard Fiore Jr. finishing runner-up.

Summit

CRESSON — The team of Gary Bradley, Jim Bradley, Bill Ritenour and Alex Ritenour carded a score of 52 to win the Greg Neubauer for DA benefit golf four-player scramble this past Monday at the Summit Country Club.

The team of Rick Holtz, Roy Holtz, Chris Spaid and Neil Rapski finished second with a score of 53, and the team of John Bianconi, Dave Serafin, P.J. Shell, and Pat Shell was third with a 53.

Skill prize winners included: Rick Holtz (longest drive, hole no. 3); Tony Crisafulli (closest to the tee shot, hole no. 4); Maddie Krug (closest to the tee shot, hole no. 8); Tom Swope (closest to the tee shot, hole no. 12); Wayne Templeton (longest putt, hole no. 18).

In the Summit’s Member/Guest event last Saturday and Sunday, the first flight-winning team was Cody Trabert and Brock Matava with a 132, and the second flight winner was Ken Fisher and Mike Taylor with a 144. Tying for first place in the third flight with identical scores of 153 were the teams of Bob Whiteman and Duane Della, and Brent Hoover and Cory Seymour. The fourth flight winning team of Rob Capelli and Luke Geisbrecht carded a 156, while the team of Tyler Morder and Derrick Callihan won the fifth flight with a 167. The sixth flight champions, with a score of 185, was the team of Mark Colyer and Rick LeComte.

Skill prize winners included: Bob Maher and Dale Perino (members, tee shot on fourth hole); Edward Maruca, Jr. and Christine Sears (guests, tee shot on fourth hole); Therese Perino (member, second shot on sixth hole); Randy Funicelli (guest, second shot on sixth hole, and putt, ninth hole); D.R. Nagle, Gail Mulhern (members, tee shot, eighth hole); Nick Carmosino, Brody Shutty (guests, tee shot, eighth hole); Joe Dziabo (member, putt, ninth hole); Ken Fisher (member, tee shot, 12th hole); Edward Maruca, Jr. (guest, tee shot, 12th hole); Matt Repko (member, second shot, 15th hole); John Hollingshead (guest, second shot, 15th hole. In the Sunday Team Skins Game, with a prize of $540, Mulhern won with her ace on the eighth hole.

Down River

EVERETT — Patty Nellis, Gloria Brown, Peggy Smith and Genny Vanemon shot a 54 to win the first flight of the Down River Ladies Night Out Invitational on Saturday.

The team of Gwen Paden, Anita Jo Petrusky, Luann Dividock and Kate Conway shot a 59 to finish five strokes back.

Suzy Pawuk, Joannie LaSalle, Judy Felkner and Kathy Bottenfield shot a 59 to win the second flight. Sandy Murphy, Carol Young, Connie Angeski and Brenda Flick won the third flight with a 64.

Flick, Dividock, Petrusky and Carol Young won closest to the pin awards. Kelly Ernest and Flick won long drive awards.

Sylvan Hills

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The team of Rita Brouse, Anita Jo Petrusky, Gwen Paden and Cindy Trimarco combined for a 68 to win the Ladies Golf Invitational at the Sylvan Hills Golf Club.

Finishing second at 69 was the team of Dana Kovash, Judy Laverick, Francis Tullar and Joanne Vasilko. Two strokes back in third was the team of Dolly Tempeton, Kathy Jo Getz, Max Shoff and Sheila Moses.

The first flight winners were Joelle Sweeney, Kandice DeRubis, Missy Stevens and Laurel Lyons (70). The second flight winners were Mary Jane Terza, Carol Young, Sandy Murphy and Rosie McCoy (79).

In Ladies Medal Play held this past Tuesday, winners were Bonnie Deem and Linda Derman. Longest drive was accomplished by Deem and Sheila Spangler.

In the Handicap Club Championship held last Saturday, Scott Henck carded the low gross score and Dave Biseli registered the low net score.

In the Senior Club Championship held this past Monday, Lynn Perry had the first-place low gross score and Jim Brown carded the second-place low gross score, while Robin Weaver scored the first-place low net score and Gary Zimmerman had the second-place low net score.

In Wednesday Senior League action, Lynn Perry, Joe DeAntonio, Buck Lear and Bud McCartney won first place.

John Roland, Pat Dunn, Robin Weaver and George Gallagher finished in second while the team of Jim Brown, Don Stubbs, Bob Gray and Hank Codd took third place.

In Week 10 of the Thursday night league, Curt Melton’s 39 was good for low gross score while Bruce Baldwin’s 33 garnered him low net score honors, and Ken Stockley (hole 2) and Michael Clowson (hole 4) won closest to pin awards.

Thursday League leaders are currently Jeffrey Coltabaugh and John Rumbaugh.

Scotch Valley

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The team of Michelle Day, Penny Orr and Crosby Denis took first place in the Scotch Valley Country Club’s Ladies Event held last Wednesday, July 10. Denis had the closest to the second shot on the third hole, and also accomplished the event’s longest putt, on the ninth hole.

In Scotch Valley’s Blue Knob Ski Patrol Golf Outing, the team of Aaron Harr, Tim Clapper, Cory Perry and Gaige Orndoff won first place, while the team of Drew Emswiler, Cassidy Miksich, Steve Miksich and Derrik Tardive took second place.

In the ASHE Golf Outing, the team of Tyler McGraw, Andrew Keirn, Cody Trabert and Brent Bloom took first place, while the team of Kevin McCloskey, E.J. Beidle, Nate Milazzo and Steve Jano placed second. The third-place team was comprised of Jake Steinbugl, Chris Kelly, Trevor Young, and Attilo Sqvillario.

Sinking Valley

TYRONE — In the Sinking Valley Country Club’s weekly gold tees Seniors Event held Wednesday, the team of Don McCaulley, Barry Himes, Steve St. John and John Bernhart took first place with 75 points, and the second-place team of Michael McMillen, John Yingling, Frank Vingless and Larry Baker was second with 72 points. The event was played under Stapleford System rules, in which the team with the highest points total wins.

Matt McKee, Bill Lechner, Tom Otto and Tim Wiedemer (70 points) finished in third place.

Closest to the pin honors went to Baker (second hole, 9 feet, 9 inches); Ron Kustaborder (eighth hole, 42 feet, six inches); Otto (10th hole, four feet, five inches), and Steve Algeria (16th hole, eight feet, six inches).

Big Orange Golf League

HUNTINGDON — Standings after Week 9, Cycle 1 in the Big Orange Golf League at Huntingdon Country Club were the team of Rick Bayer and Larry Newton, 6-3, Ed Gargula and Jim Lasko, 5-4; Phil Thompson and Gerry Huggler, 4-5, and Bill Frazier and Bob Lamey, 3-6.

Phil Thompson had the low gross score of 33, and Keith Black had the low net score of 34. Larry Newton’s 30-foot birdie putt on the seventh hole was the shot of the day.
