Blough’s save helps Altoona improve to 2-0

Altoona moved to 2-0 in pool play in the Babe Ruth 13U Mid-Atlantic Regional with a 5-4 win over Valley Babe Ruth of Western New York on Sunday night at Seitz Field.

Connor Blough earned the save by striking out two batters to end the game with runners on second and third base. He pitched in relief of Carson Kratzer, who worked the first four innings, and Matt Smith.

Bryce Eberhart and Connor Lindsey each had two hits and two RBIs for Altoona, and Carson Kensinger had two hits.

Altoona is off today and will play Marlton at 2 p.m. Tuesday and Sorensco at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The quarterfinals begin Wednesday.

OLEY — Spring Cove slipped past Norchester, 4-3, in Junior Legion action at Oley Valley Youth League field on Sunday.

Devon Boyles earned the win in relief, while also collecting three hits. Lambert Palmer had two hits and two RBIs, and Jonah Snowberger pitched four innings and had four strikeouts.

VFW 13-14 states

HOLLIDAYSBURG — Defending champion Spring Cove was eliminated from the VFW 13-14 State Baseball Tournament with a 5-4 loss to Mid-Penn on Sunday at Hollidaysburg Area High School.

Spring Cove finished 2-2 in the double-elimination tournament.

Rylan Daugherty led Spring Cove with two RBIs, and Mason Conrath and Trenton Butler had two hits apiece.

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Hollidaysburg 8-10-year-old team captured the Little League International Section 4 championship with a 12-2 win over Hampden on Saturday night at Hollidaysburg Summer Baseball League field.

Hollidaysburg will now play in the eight-team state tournament in Wellsboro.
