HERSHEY — Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School senior Ryne Talko completed his scholastic tennis career with a fourth-place finish in the state.

Talko lost both of his matches on Saturday in the PIAA Class 2A Singles Tennis Championships at Hershey Racquet Club and finished fourth overall. Talko lost to District 1 champ Robert Cercos Gonzalez of Dock Mennonite Academy in the semifinals, 7-6 (6), 6-3, and then fell to District 2 champ, Lenny Maiocco of Western Wayne, in the consolation match, 6-3, 6-2.

Cercos went on to the final and lost to senior Jonathan Nottingham of Masterman, 6-3, 6-0.

Fox Chapel senior Robby Shymansky won the Class 3A singles championship with a 7-6 (0), 4-6, 6-3 win over Great Valley junior Sameer Gangoli.

Doubles champions were Peters Township’s Connor Bruce and Elian Ascencio in Class 3A and Wyomissing’s James Pottieger and Will Schreck in Class 2A.

PSU beaten in semis

PHILADELPHIA — The Penn State men’s lacrosse team fell to Yale in the NCAA semifinal, 21-17, at Lincoln Financial Field Saturday evening.

“I’m just proud of them,” PSU coach Jeff Tambroni said.

Penn State redshirt junior Grant Ament continued to rewrite the record book as his five-assist outing gave him both the Big Ten and Penn State all-time career assists record with 160. Ament also chipped in three goals for an eight-point day.

Ament finished 2019 with the NCAA record for assists in the single season at 96. Gerard Arceri scored three goals.
