Mountain Lions pack a punch at Punxsy

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Altoona baseball team scored 10 runs in the first inning, then nine more in the fifth inning of a 24-5 win over Punxsutawney on Thursday in high school baseball action.

Winning pitcher Ian Yon belted a double and a home run while finishing with three RBIs. Teammate Cameron Mauk added two doubles and two RBIs to go with two hits and two RBIs each from Matt Hartman, Donnie oyer, Brendan Baney and Aiden Steinbugl.

The Mountain Lions, who totaled 25 hits in 42 at bats, improved to 7-6, while Punxsy fell to 7-7.

THREE SPRINGS –Northern Bedford dropped a twinbill at Southern Huntingdon.

In a 5-2 loss, the Panthers, who were tied at 2-2 after three innings, got two hits from Andrew Lazor.

In a 10-8 loss, Northern scored six times in the third for a 6-4 lead but it wasn’t enough. Lazor added three RBIs to go with two RBIs from Luke Weidemann.
