Wagner honored again

SHIPPENSBURG — Shippensburg University redshirt-senior Abby Wagner, an Altoona Area High School graduate, was named Tuesday to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District Division II Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team as sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors Association of America.

Wagner graduated summa cum laude this month with a 3.83 cumulative grade-point average as an exercise science major while also pursuing a Power, Agility & Group Exercise Certificate. It is the second consecutive year that Wagner has earned the Academic All-District classification.

The 2018-19 Shippensburg University Women’s Student-Athlete of the Year, Wagner completed her track and field career as a four-time All-American in the triple jump (three-time All-American outdoors, one-time All-American indoors).

This past weekend, Wagner earned All-America second-team honors in the triple jump with an 11th-place finish at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships on a top mark of 40 feet, 4 inches. The performance was her first competition in a month after an injury sidelined her for the end of the regular season and the conference championships. Wagner’s collegiate best was achieved this season before the injury — 41 feet, 8¢ inches at Richmond’s Fred Hardy Invitational.
