Lady Colts avenge losses to Shamokin

NORTHERN CAMBRIA — The Northern Cambria softball team scored three runs in the second inning, and had to hold on the rest of the way, to advance with a 3-2 win over West Shamokin in the District 6 Class 2A quarterfinals Tuesday.

Kaitlyn Kudlawiec pitched 5• innings with three strikeouts, two walks and two earned runs to get the win. The Lady Colts advanced to the semifinals and also avenged two prior losses to West Shamokin from the regular season.

Kayla Boring, Nicole Bearer, Jessica Krug and Brooke Boring split the final two innings to close out the game.

Fourth-seeded Northern Cambria will travel to top-seeded Bishop McCort on Friday at Roxbury Park, with first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.

Titans triumph

SAXTON — Tussey Mountain advanced to the semifinals of the District 5 1A baseball playoffs, thanks to a five-inning mercy rule win over Southern Fulton.

The Titans will get Rockwood in the semifinals after their 4-1 win over Northern Bedford in another quarterfinal game.

Winning pitcher Jordan Berkstresser scattered five hits over five innings for the win. He helped out his own cause with two RBIs.

The big spark on offense for the Titans, who put the game away with five in the third for a 6-0 lead, was three hits and four RBIs from Matthew Watkins, who had a double for one of his hits. Teammate Brady Villa added two hits and an RBI.

Season over for NB

ROCKWOOD — Troy Emert scattered four hits over seven innings, struck out 13 and did not walk a batter in pitching Rockwood past Northern Bedford in a District 5 1A baseball quarterfinal matchup.

Rockwood will get Tussey Mountain in the semifinals after the Titans downed Southern Fulton, 10-0, in another quarterfinal game.

Northern Bedford got its only run in the seventh on an RBI from Luke Wiedemann, who was also the tough-luck losing pitcher. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.
