Relays shine for Lions
BUTLER — The Altoona boys and girls track and field team competed on Thursday at the 55th annual Butler Invitational alongside 67 teams and 1,600 athletes at Butler High School.
The top finisher was the boys 400 relay team, which took second in 42.69. The group included Connor Adams, Isaiah Barnes, Kurt VonColln and Mitchell Lawhead.
The girls 400 relay team of Brooke Long, Ashtyn Hileman, Ta’Shay Seward and Darrian Berkheimer took fourth (50.62) while Liam D’Angelis took sixth in the pole vault (13-1). Ben Tofano was seventh in the discus (134-7) while Gianna Caputo was eighth in the 100 hurdles (16.25).
C-K softball
MORRISDALE — The Claysburg-Kimmel softball team split a twinbill on Thursday night with West Branch, winning the opener, 5-4, while losing 4-3 in eight innings in the nightcap.
In the victory, winning pitcher Emily Claar recorded the 100th hit of her career. She finished with two hits. Teammate Haileigh Reed had three hits and four RBIs to go with two hits from Jazmin Kennedy.
Olivia Bushore was the winning pitcher.
In the nightcap loss, Madison Frye had three hits, all doubles, while Reed added two hits.
