Penn State wrestlers get three top seeds

UNIVERSITY PARK — The Penn State wrestling team will be sending nine wrestlers to the 2019 NCAA Wresting Championships on March 21-13 in Pittsburgh, and three of those will be the top seeds at their respective weights.

A total of seven Penn Staters are seeded in the top three, and all nine entries are seeded in the top 12.

Top seeds are senior Jason Nolf at 157 pounds, junior Mark Hall at 174 and senior Bo Nickal at 197.

Junior Vincenzo Joseph is the No. 2 seed at 165, senior Shakur Rasheed is the No. 2 seed at 184, and senior Anthony Cassar is the No. 2 seed at 285.

Sophomore Nick Lee is the No. 3 seed at 141.

True freshman Roman Bravo-Young is the No. 10 seed at 133, and redshirt freshman Brady Berge is the No. 12 seed at 149.

Huntingdon’s Jacob Oliver of Edinboro is seeded 28th at 174, and Central Cambria High School graduate Max Murin of Iowa is seeded 22nd at 141.

Penn State has won seven of the last eight NCAA championships.

The 2019 three-day event takes place in PPG Paints Arena. Action begins on Thursday with session one at noon and session two at 7 p.m.

Tigers prevail

PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Hollidaysburg Area High School boys tennis team downed Punxsutawney, 7-0, on Wednesday.

Rami Alkhafaji, Anthony Martinelli, Nathan Ferris and Brian Johnson won singles matches for the Tigers. Martinelli and Jake Irwin, Johnson and Ferris, and Adrian Lorensen and Jacob Gallagher won doubles matches.
