IUP women make Division II Elite Eight

GLENVILLE, W.Va. — The Indiana University of Pennsylvania women’s basketball team advanced to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals on Monday night at the Waco Center.

IUP, coached by former Saint Francis University men’s coach and Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School boys coach Tom McConnell, downed California University of Pa., 68-60, in the NCAA third round to win the Atlantic Regional final. The Lady Crimson Hawks (29-3) will now play Southwestern Oklahoma State in the quarters next Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio.

Carolyn Appleby led IUP with 24 points and Regional MVP Brittany Robinson added 16 points and nine rebounds. Bellwood-Antis High School graduate Ana Hollen, a reserve for IUP, did not see game action.
