Buckley winds up ninth in 100 free
LEWISBURG — A day after winning a gold medal in the 50 freestyle, Huntingdon’s Nick Buckley came back to compete in two more events on Thursday at the PIAA 2A Swimming and Diving Championships at Bucknell University.
Buckley finished 9th in the 100 freestyle in 47.36.
“His preliminary in the morning was not very good, which put him in the consolation finals at night,” Huntingdon coach Melanie Varner said. “I am sure the adrenaline from Wednesday, and not getting a good night’s sleep … I think he was tired. He was not happy with his time. I think he was frustrated but he swam a much better race at night. He was seeded 11th and finished ninth.”
Buckley was also part of the 400 freestyle relay team with Andrew Edwards, Ben Atherton and Marshall Lowe. They finished 19th in 3:23.75.
“They swam well. It was just the other teams swam better,” Varner said. “We didn’t get better, but we didn’t get worse, either. They had a good day.”
Haley Goldstone competed in the 100 freestyle, finishing 32nd in 57.13.
