Blair club will open its season on Sunday

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Blair United/Hollidaysburg Rugby Club opens its 2019 on Sunday at Tiger Stadium against Woodland HIlls at 2 p.m.

The club is based out of Hollidaysburg, but has students from Bishop Guilfoyle, Altoona, Bishop McCort and Hollidaysburg. Over 25 players have been practicing since February.

The team, now in its third season is led by Gus Dellinger, who received a scholarship earlier this year to play Rugby at Kutztown. He is also a USA Rugby High School All-American.

Also on the team are Nate Fisher and Sam Haines, along with Colin Butler, Ian DiPangrazio, Campbell Walls and Gavin Amick.

Other members include Trent Paddock, Zach Wilt and newcomers Jake Ardary, Rocco Grassi, Creed Norris and Jared Scarbro. Veteran Mason Houck returns for his third season. He is joined by Thad Baughman.

The team will compete in the Allegheny Division of Rugby PA, with games against Indiana, North Pittsburgh, Kiski Valley, Elizabethtown, Hempfield, Chambersburg and State College.

Two teams will advance to the state playoffs.

The schedule for this Sunday includes a Junior Varsity 7s tourney vs. Moon and North Pitt United at noon, followed by the Blair/Hills game. Admission is free.

There will be homes games on March 24, April 14 and April 18.
