Hoops du Jour

PSU at Nebraska men

Tipoff: 9 p.m., Pinnacle Bank Arena

Records: Penn State (7-8); Nebraska (11-4)

Coaches: Patrick Chambers is 120-129 in his eighth season at Penn State and 162-157 overall. Tim Miles is 108-101 in his seventh season at Nebraska and 391-321 overall.

TV: ESPN2 (Jason Benetti, Robbie Hummel)

Radio: ESPN 1430, PSU Sports Network (Steve Jones, Dick Jerardi)

Notes: Penn State’s season is in a free fall after starting their Big Ten slate 0-4. … Patrick Chambers was suspended in the blowout loss to No. 22 Wisconsin for shoving Myles Dread during a timeout against No. 2 Michigan. He will return to the sideline against the Cornhuskers. … The Lions committed 16 turnovers against the Badgers and looked helpless on the offensive end. …Nebraska is on a two-game losing streak after falling to Iowa, 93-84. Senior Glynn Watson Jr. is the team’s best weapon, shooting 46 percent from the field and 41 percent from beyond the arc in addition to facilitating the offense. …Nebraska is an 111⁄2-point favorite.

Mirror prediction: Penn State 81, Nebraska 76

Comment: Penn State was awful against a really good defense in Wisconsin. Similar to jumping after wearing a weighted vest, the Lions should be much better against a bad Nebraska defense.

Mirror prediction record: 9-6

SFU men at LIU Brooklyn

Tipoff: 7 p.m., Steinberg Center, Brooklyn

Records: Saint Francis (5-8, 1-1 NEC); LIU Brooklyn (7-7, 1-1)

Coaches: Rob Krimmel is 84-116 in his seventh season at Saint Francis and overall. Derek Kellogg is 24-23 in his second season at LIU Brooklyn and 179-160 in 11 seasons overall.

Radio: Online at sfuathletics.com

Notes: The Flash hit the road for the first time in conference play after going 1-1 at home to start the slate. … SFU got demolished at home its last time out by FDU, 79-61. That’s the same opponent that eliminated the Flash in Loretto in the first round of last year’s NEC Tournament, so clearly SFU has some matchup problems with FDU and may not want to run into that team again in this year’s league tourney. … LIU Brooklyn split its first two NEC games on the road, losing at Sacred Heart before winning at Bryant. … ESPN’s matchup predictor gives SFU just a 33.8 percent chance to win this game.

Mirror prediction: Saint Francis 79, LIU Brooklyn 75

Comment: I’m going with the road upset here, in large part because the experienced Flash know how important this game is after losing at home already in NEC play.

Mirror prediction record: 10-3
