Lions lose close to Medaille

Penn State Altoona’s early-season struggles continued Sunday afternoon at Adler Arena, as the Lions were outscored by just one point in each half in an 82-80 loss to Medaille College.

The Lions (2-8, 2-3 AMCC), which trailed by one at the halftime horn, 34-33, had five players score in double-figures. Shevelle Bailey came off the bench to match starter Jack Kusters with 15 points each. Austin Kris, Jalen Archie-Davis and Y’shua Bragg each netted 13.

Cameron Gardner-Nicholson grabbed 13 rebounds for Penn State Altoona, a team-high and tied for game-high with Medaille’s Jonathan Smith, who also scored a game-high 24 points.

The Lions will be back in action on Dec. 31 when they’ll take on Chatham at home with tip-off set for 3 p.m.

Mount men fall short

ERIE — Carlos Palacios scored 11 points and Tommy Pisula scored nine points and had eight rebounds at the Mountie men lost to Penn State Behrend Sunday afternoon, 54-45.

The Lions led, 27-21, at the half, and were led by a combination of Justin Gorny and Mike Fischer. Gorny was a rebound shy of a double-double and led the team in scoring with 16 points. Fischer had 13 for the Lions.

The Mountie men (6-4) are off until they travel to Nashville on Dec. 29 for the Division III Music City Classic. They will play Hampden-Sydney College at noon.

Balanced offense carries Lady Lions

With all five starters reaching double-digits scoring for the game, Penn State Altoona was able to outlast Medaille College, 82-74, Sunday afternoon at Adler Arena.

Tyrone graduate Alexis Cannistraci had a double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds with a perfect 10-of-10 mark at the free-throw line. Finnley Christine, another Tyrone product, finished the day with 18 points, while Penn Cambria graduate Kaley Strittmatter scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Jessica Stevens of Altoona and Paige Burke of Claysburg each scored 12 as the Lady Lions improved to 3-5 (2-3 AMCC).

The Lady Lions are now off for the holidays and will travel to Ohio for the Hoops for Hope Tournament on Dec. 28, where they will take on host Ohio Wesleyan in the first round.

Kendrick, Robinson shine in loss

ERIE — Despite 15-point scoring performances from starters Breana Kendrick and Rachel Robinson, the Lady Mounties suffered another setback falling to Penn State Behrend, 60-51.

Penn State Behrends was led by a 14-point, 13-rebound double-double outing by Alanna Dibble and a game-high 16 points from Caitlin Carnuche. The Lady Mounties are in action again tonight at home against Chatham, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
