Notes: Penn State lost its Big Ten opener against Maryland, 66-59. Lamar Stevens, Josh Reaves and Rasir Bolton got little help from their teammates on the offensive end against the Terrapins. Mike Watkins, who returned to the court during the upset victory against then No. 13 Virginia Tech last week, was scoreless and racked up four fouls in his 11 minutes of play. … Indiana won their Big Ten opener against Northwestern, 68-66. Freshman standout Romeo Langford leads the team with 18 points per game. The Hoosiers haven’t won an away game this season.

Notes: The Red Flash are coming off a 79-75 home win against Niagara on Friday, a win that looks a little better after Niagara went to Pitt on Monday and pulled off an upset. … Keith Braxton was named NEC player of the week Monday after two big games, including 25 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists and three steals against Niagara. He’s the first player in the country this season to have a line of 25-12-7-3 in those categories. … American was picked to finish seventh in the Patriot League but is off to a strong start. The Eagles are led by Patriot League preseason player of the year Sa’eed Nelson, who’s averaging 19.0 points. … American has a 56.6 percent chance of winning, according to ESPN’s matchup projector.
