McAlkich leads Lions past Eagles

TYRONE — Derek McAlkich edged Andrew Ferguson, 75-77, for medalist honors, and McAlkich’s Mountain Lions slipped by Tyrone by even less, 335-336, at Sinking Valley Country Club in high school golf action Tuesday.

Jake Taylor carded a 79 for the Golden Eagles, and Caleb Tilson had an 86 for Altoona.

Portage splits

CRESSON — Austin Gentile’s 46 was good enough to help Portage top Ferndale, 254-301, but the Mustangs fell to North Star, 231-254, behind medalist Jake Blough’s 39 at Summit Country Club.

MOUNT UNION — Bellwood-Antis won by forfeit over Mount Union, which could only field two golfers in a match at the American Legion Country Club.

The Trojans’ only golfer to turn in a card was Trey Heffelfinger with a 75. Bellwood-Antis’ top scorer was Noah Patton (126).
