Fink wins Sinking Valley title on first playoff hole
TYRONE — Artie Fink finished with a 295, winning on the first playoff hole, to win the Sinking Valley Country Club championship.
Dan Solomon was second (295), followed by Jimmy Ferguson (304), Andrew Ferguson (304) and Derek McAlkich (309).
Suz Price won the ladies championship with a 173. Denise Kelly was second (174) while Anna Myers was third (192). Kathleen Taylor (192) and Loane Maier (208) rounded out the scoring.
Mens flight winners included Leonard DelBaggio (first), Tom Rubine (second) and Mark Long (third).
In other action, the team of Cassidy and Steve Miksich, Mike Starr and Steve Monahan shot a 130 to win the Labor Day Scramble.
Tim Noye Jr., Rubine, Jimmy and Greg Ferguson were second (135), followed by Harry Miller, Bob Brown, Mark Long and Ralph Hamilton in third (135).
HOLLIDAYSBURG — The team of Rita Brouse, Sandy Murphy, Marian Monios and Molly Goldstein recently took first-place honors in the Ladies Golf Association Scramble.
The team of Carole Laich, Bonnie Deem and Caroln Painter were second, followed by the third-place team of Bernie Mayancsik, Karen Hosey, Evie Monahan and Sue Welsh.
Philipsburg Elks Lodge
PHILIPSBURG — Nate Lucas and Cathy Greenland were recently crown club champions at the Philipsburg Elks Lodge Country Club in mens and womens action.
Lucas is a three-time champion, having won by back in 2006 and 2007. Greenland becomes the 17th different woman to win at the Elks. Halle Herrington, who finished second, had won it the past two years. Dee Danko was third, followed by Georgiann Way in fourth.
Finishing behind Lucas was Jim Dixon, Matt Johnson and Pat Brown.
Flight winners on the men’s side was Scott Nelson, Doug Goss, John Gibbons, Andy Reifer, Al Anderson and Jake Vaux. The ladies first flight winner was Nancy Moskel.
ORE HILL — Ron and Spencer Hinish recently won the Parent-Child Tournament held at the Iron Masters Country Club.
The shot a 62. Finishing second were Bucky and Brett Miller (69).
The net division winners were Ron and Ben Hinish (60). Wally and Cody Clapper were second (63).
HUNTINGDON — The teams of Bill Frazier and Ed Gargula, along with Gerry Huggler and Bob Lamey, each went 3-1 during week 4 of the second cycle of the Big Orange Golf League at the Huntingdon Country Club.
The teams of Larry Newton and Phil Thompson, along with Rick Bayer and Jim Lakso, both went 1-3.
Thompson was the low gross winner 933) while Gargula was the low net winner (30). The shot of the day was turned in by Gargula, who hit one from 165 yards out on No. 3 for a regulation par through the trees.

CRESSON — Cindy and Len Snowberger have a total of 44 points, good enough for a first-place showing in the Summit Country Club Couples Night standings.
Mike and Diane Dunmyer are second with 30 points, followed by Jim and Sandy Smith with 27 points. Doug and Carrie Fogel follow with 25 points. Dale and Therese Perino round out the top five in the standings.
