Berardinelli, Kravetz pace Altoona boys in opener

High school soccer

UNIONTOWN — Alex Berardinelli and Austin Kravetz each netted two goals as Altoona won its season opener over Laurel Highlands, 5-4, in high school boys soccer Saturday afternoon.

Kolby Livingston scored twice in the loss for the Mustangs as they fell to 1-1.

Berardinelli, Zach Kowalski, Graham Black and Bailey Musselman all had assists for the Mountain Lions.

Jonathan Trexler added two goals for Central.

UNIONTOWN — The Altoona girls soccer team improved to 2-0 with a win at Laurel Highlands.

The Lady Lions, who scored all four goals in the second half, got solo efforts from Darrian Berkheimer, Morgan Sarver, Lauren Kiser and Becca Dull.

Hollidaysburg third

BELLEFONTE — Hollidaysburg captured the consolation game of the Bellefonte Tournament with a 2-1 win over Bellefonte.

Hollidaysburg won it when Alyssa Bell scored at the 19:24 mark of the second half. Rita Kendziora scored for the Lady Tigers in the first half.

Hollidaysburg lost 1-0 to Selinsgrove in the opener. The Lady Seals won the title with a victory over Juniata in the championship game.

MORRISDALE — Moshannon Valley went 1-1 in a four-team format, beating Brookville, 3-1, while losing to Huntingdon, 4-2.

In its victory, Mo Valley got two goals from Sarah McClelland. In the loss to Huntindon, Tristan Tamblin scored both goals for the Damsels. Huntingdon got two goals from Maddie DeForrest.
