McAlkich shoots 76

STATE COLLEGE — Derek McAlkich’s 76 was good enough to place fourth individually and help Altoona to a tie for fifth place at the Happy Valley Invite in high school golf Monday.

Sanit Joseph’s Jack Mangene won the individual title with a 74 and helped the Wolves win the team title with a three-player score of 236. The Mountain Lions shot 245.

State College’s John Olsen and Central Dauphin’s Jake Shmonov both shot 75 to tie for second.

Tyrone’s Andrew Ferguson, who won the event last year as a junior, shot 79 as the Golden Eagles finished 11th.

The Philipsburg-Osceola boys shot 252 and tied for ninth as Ky Bender shot a team-best 83.

Penn Cambria got an 85 from Colin Reese and finished 13th.

On the girls side, McDowell edged State College A, 256-260, behind medalist Natalie Brosig’s 82.

Halle Herrington shot a 92 for Philipsburg-Osceola, which placed eighth.

Kayla Ringler led Penn Cambria with a 102, and Hollidaysburg got a 105 from Taylor Hileman.

Colts triumph

HASTINGS — Tanner Pershing shot a 1-over par 34 to earn medalist honors and lead Northern Cambria to a 205-301 victory over Blairsville at Cambrian Hills.

Aaron Krug shot a 38 for the Colts.
