HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Bellwood-Antis girls basketball team’s run of success the past few years has not just been limited to the high school season.

Sponsored by DelGrosso’s, the Bellwood team notched its third straight Blair Regional YMCA Women’s League title with a 55-39 win over Superior Detailing Thursday in the high school division championship game.

DelGrosso’s jumped out to an early 18-5 lead and held a double-digit lead most of the game for the 16-point victory.

Alli Campbell poured in a game-high 26 points, and Sakeria Harralson scored 14 of her 18 points in the second half to hold off the Penn Cambria squad.

“It’s awesome to win this for the third year in a row,” Campbell said. “I wouldn’t want to do it with any other group of girls. We’re definitely a more confident team and just continue to get better and better every time we step on the court. “

Tied 5-5 after two minutes of play, DelGrosso’s broke off a 13-0 run.

Campbell started the run with a putback of a Harralson miss, then assisted on Harralson’s layup the next time down the floor.

After Jaydyn Shuke made two foul shots, it was Harralson scoring on the putback, then assisting on a Campbell layup.

Riley D’Angelo followed with a 3-pointer to give DelGrosso’s the early 13-point edge.

When Emmy Harvey scored on layup off a steal later in the half, Superior cut the deficit to nine, but DelGrosso’s ripped off another 10 straight points.

Emilie Leidig sandwiched a 3-pointer in between a trio of Campbell buckets to make it a 33-14 game heading towards half.

“We have four starters back from last year who know each other and have played a lot together,” DelGrosso’s coach Jim Swaney said. “Even Jaydyn Shuke, who’s new to the starting lineup this year, has been playing with these girls since third or fourth grade. That’s a great experience factor to have.”

With the DelGrosso’s team a little winded late in the half, however, Superior scored seven straight points to make it a 12-point game at the break.

Harvey made a pair of layups, and Madison Grove knocked down a 3-pointer just before the halftime buzzer.

Superior’s nine-player rotation was beginning to wear on DelGrosso’s, which played just five most of the game.

“Being the defending state champs, we knew we were in for a fight,” Superior coach Keith Saleme said. “We also knew they didn’t have a very deep bench. We just told our girls at halftime to keep fighting. Unfortunately for us, nobody got into foul trouble or was exhausted enough to come out of the game.”

Superior’s Hannah Saleme opened the second half with with trey to make it a 33-24 game, but DelGrosso’s got a big boost from Harralson in the post. The 6-foot-1 junior scored three straight buckets followed by two more from Campbell for a 43-24 advantage.

“There was a lot of contact in the first half. I adjusted to it and started going up stronger,” Harralson said. “Everyone on the team trusts each other. We’ve grown a lot.”

Superior would not go away, however. The Penn Cambria club answered with a 12-3 run to pull within 10 points, but DelGrosso’s closed out the game with nine of the final 12 points to set the final score.

“They obviously have one of the best players in the area. She’s hard to stop, and they responded every time we got close,” Saleme said. “It was a game of runs. We worked hard but just couldn’t get over the final hump.”

Harvey led Superior with 14 points while Hannah Saleme and Makalyn Clapper each finished with seven points.

“Penn Cambria played their tails off. They’re very athletic,” Swaney said. “Every time we’d get up on them, they’d continue to fight and come back at us. That’s the sign of a mature basketball team.”
