Martin Oil makes Fed final

Mark Stewart’s two-run triple in the bottom of the fifth turned out to be the winning hit for Martin Oil in an 8-7 win over Park Home in the George B. Kelley Federation baseball playoffs Wednesday night at Vets Field.

Martin Oil wins the best-of-3 series, 2-0, and will get the winner of tonight’s Shirley’s Cookies-Tyrone Legion game in the championship this weekend.

Jack Showalter drove in three for Martin Oil, while Stewart finished with two hits. Teammate Trent Whaley also had two hits. Mason Akers started and got the win. He struck out four and walked one.

Park Home got three hits and three RBIs from Ian Yon, who homered.

n Shirley’s Cookies evened its best-of-3 series with Tyrone Legion at 1-1 at Vets Field, thanks to an 8-1 victory in which the winners scored all eight runs in the first inning.

Game 3 is tonight at 7 p.m.

Tanner Hunt had two hits and an RBI while winning pitcher Corey Chamberlain drove in two runs. Teammate Preston Imler also had two hits.

Chamberlain got a complete-game victory. He gave up three hits, struck out seven and walked only two.

Tyrone got two hits from Adam Gearhart.

Sheetz wins opener

LOYSBURG — Garrett Rosman had two hits and three RBIs to lead Club Sheetz (Altoona) to a 9-6 win over Northern Bedford in the opening round of the Area 4 VFW 15-16 regional tournament.

The winners play at Hollidaysburg at Longer Elementary on Friday at 6 p.m.

Winning pitcher Josh Bardelang struck out eight and did not walk a batter. Teammate Brendan Baney added two RBIs to go with two hits each from Nick Folcarelli and Sam Carmel.

Kyler States had two hits and five RBIs for Northern.

Cumming Motors wins

Brendan Holtslander had three hits, including two doubles, and also knocked in four runs, to lead Cumming Motors to a 17-2 mercy-rule victory over M&T Bank in an Altoona Teener 13-year-old round-robin playoff game that was stopped after four innings.

Justin Fleck was the winning pitcher for Cumming Motors (1-1 in the playoff), allowing just three hits and two runs while walking none in four innings.
