Man accused of rape, assault

Tyrone Borough Police filed rape, strangulation and sexual assault charges Tuesday against a 25-year-old man.

Dillon Michael Watters of 117 W. 14th St., Tyrone, is in Blair County Prison on $75,000 cash bail. He was charged felony offenses of rape, sexual assault, strangulation, as well as misdemeanor offenses of simple assault, harassment, criminal mischief, indecent assault and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. July 24 before Magisterial District Judge Fred B. Miller.

Police responded to a report of a verbal incident Tuesday morning that led to the charges against Watters.

Police collected evidence at the scene and statements were taken from Watters and the victim.

Watters told police that the woman told him to stop, and he did, according to an affidavit written by Tyrone Borough Police Officer Dustin Rhoades.

Interviewed again at the police station and read his Miranda rights, Watters said the woman did not resist or push him away, according to Rhoades’ affidavit.

According to the affidavit, the victim old police that she kept telling Watters no and bit him on the arm, but he continued.

She also said after the assault, she and Watters were dressed and still arguing. Police gleaned from the victim that during the argument the victim yelled, “I can’t believe you raped me,” and Watters yelled at her not to be saying that. He allegedly then grabbed her and put her in a “sleeper hold” with his forearm on her throat, the affidavit states. The victim stated that at some point, she lost consciousness.
