Fed still waiting

For the second night in a row, the George B. Kelley Federation League championship series was postponed because of rain.

Tyrone Legion has a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series on Martin Oil. Game 2 has now been moved to tonight at 7 p.m. at Vets Field in Altoona. Saturday night’s Game 2 was also rained out.

Martin Oil lost the opener, 6-1, last Friday night. Game 3 is now slated for Tuesday night.

BMG rolls

LILLY — Andrew Maul gave up three hits, struck out 11 and walked just one in leading BMG Construction to a 10-0 win over Sheetz in six innings in City League play Sunday.

Julius Niemand led the winners with three hits and two RBIs to go with two hits and two RBIs from Devin Harrison. Brandon Durbin added two hits to go with Josh Surkovich’s two RBIs.

Chris Tromm had two hits for Sheetz.

Helsel leads Cove

LEBANON — Ty Helsel pitched a complete game one-hitter and shut out Clearfield, 5-0, in a first round VFW state tournament game. Helsel struck out 14 hitters.

Devon Boyles and Matt Watkins each had three hits for Spring Cove.

The rest of the tournament has been suspended to next Saturday due to anticipated bad weather.
