BCDA receives grant
Money will go toward pipeline extension
The Bedford County Development Association received two grants to extend a natural gas pipeline in Bedford Township.
The pipeline will extend about 1,500 feet from County Ridge Road into the Bedford County Business Park.
The total project cost estimate is $200,000. The Pennsylvania Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded BCDA a $100,000 grant for the pipeline. The United States Department of Agriculture awarded $98,000 toward the project.
BCDA will contribute $2,000 for the pipeline extension.
“Connecting the main gas line to the business park will further enhance the marketability of the Lot 4 site,” noted JP Tambourine, BCDA chair. “This will eliminate time and costs for future employers. It will also benefit neighboring businesses who will now be able to connect to the pipeline.”
State Rep. Jesse Topper, R-Bedford, said, “This is a very important state grant due to the fact that rural areas need to build infrastructure that will meet the needs of existing and future employers. The availability of natural gas is often a high priority in the site selection process.”
The pipeline will be placed along Innovation Drive and connect the main gas line to the business park lot 4.
UGI Utilities Inc. is partnering with BCDA to extend the pipeline.
