Tyrone team makes semis

HERSHEY — Tyrone Area High School’s District 6 Class 2A boys tennis doubles championship team of Paul Lemaire and Ethan Vipond has made it to the final four.

The Golden Eagle duo won a pair of matches on Friday at the Hershey Racquet Club and now are within two victories of a state championship.

Lemaire and Vipond opened the day with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over District 1 champion Lower Moreland’s pairing of Josh Amo and Andrew Movsesian. The Eagles then dropped the first set of the quarters to Camp Hill Trinity’s Mason Wagner and Adam Warrior, 4-6, before recovering to take the remaining sets, 6-3 and 6-2.

Lemaire and Vipond will face off with Will Nocito and Dylan Parda of WPIAL champion Sewickley Academy at 11 a.m. this morning.

Both Lemaire and Vipond are seniors.

Bedford’s District 5 title team of senior Jess Hampton and junior Caleb Beidle made it through the the quarterfinals before being sidelined. The Bisons bested Moravian’s Cyrus Elmi and Robbie Shaff, 6-2, 6-7 (1), 6-3, in their opener but were knocked out by Masterman’s Anthony Chaidtya and Kailash Natarajan, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, in the round of eight.

The finals are scheduled for 3 p.m.
