Tyrone doubles team places 3rd

HERSHEY — The PIAA run for a pair of Tyrone Area High School tennis players ended in the semifinals on Saturday but not without a fight.

Tyrone seniors Ethan Vipond and Paul Lemaire, the District 6 Class 2A doubles champions, fell to District 7 champions Will Nocito and Dylan Parda of Sewickley Academy in the PIAA doubles tournament semis at the Hershey Racquet Club in three close sets.

Nocito and Parda, both seniors, won, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 7-5.

Lemaire and Vipond bounced back after the semifinal loss to win the consolation match and earn a third-place finish in the state. They defeated District 12 champions Anthony Chaiditya and Kailash Natarajan of Masterman in the consolation match, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-2.

Vipond and Lemaire had beaten District 1 champs Josh Arno and Andrew Movsesian of Lower Moreland in the first round on Friday, 6-1, 6-1. They then topped Trinity’s Mason Wagner and Adam Warren in the quarterfinals, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Nocito and Parda went on to win the state doubles title by cruising past District 3 champs Will Schreck and James Pottieger of Wyomissing in the championship match, 6-3, 6-4.

Class 3A doubles: Cathedral Prep’s Joe DeMarco and Alec Thomas.

Class 3A singles: Great Valley’s Sameer Gangoli.

Class 2A singles: Jonathan Nottingham of Masterman.
