Lady Colts best Heritage rival

MARION CENTER — It’s been back and forth between Northern Cambria and Marion Center all season long, and Monday afternoon’s game was no different.

It was the Lady Colts that made all the right moves this time around, and Northern Cambria beat the Lady Stingers, 5-3, in the District 6 Class 2A softball quarterfinals at Marion Center Community Park.

The Lady Colts (14-3) and Lady Stingers (13-5) battled for the Heritage Conference North division title during the regular season and split their doubleheader. But Northern Cambria took control this time, and the fifth-seeded Lady Colts bested the No. 4-seeded Stingers.

With the score tied at 1 going into the bottom of the third inning, Northern Cambria coach Kevin Krug decided to make a pitching change. After allowing a leadoff single to right field, Nicole Bearer gave up just one more hit the rest of the game.

The Lady Colts tied it up in the top of the second. Northern Cambria added three more runs in the fourth. Brooke Lieb smacked a leadoff double. The other two runs scored on an error and a sacrifice groundout. Sydney Sheredy hit a solo home run to start the fifth inning, giving Northern Cambria a 5-1 lead.
