Hollidaysburg grad wins honor at Pitt-Greensburg

Colleen Murphy, a Hollidaysburg graduate, was presented the Pitt-Greensburg Scholar Athlete of the Year for women’s athletics recently.

Murphy is a three-sport athlete at Pitt-Greensburg and is on pace to finish in the top-10 in school history in 3-point field goals. She hit .263 with two home runs while starting all 32 softball games as a freshman and has started 16 of 17 contests this season.

Altoona graduate Julia Nagle won a doubles match for the Lycoming women’s tennis team in a season-ending 5-4 loss to Lebanon Valley in the conference semifinals.

Marcus Lee, a Bishop Carroll graduate, finished his career with the Juniata men’s basketball team with 1,742 points, second in school history, and his 80 blocked shots rank second all-time.

His 673 rebounds are 10th all-time, and his single season field goal percentage of 62.5 percent is the best in Juniata history.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches named Lee to the all-district second team, and he was picked twice as the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week. Lee also maintained a 3.53 GPA and was named the Landmark Senior Scholar Athlete.

Freshman Ali Wyland broke two school records for Shippensburg University as the Raiders won the PSAC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday May 5th, 2018. Ali ran 11.96 sec in the 100 m dash in the prelims Friday breaking her own collegiate school record to qualify for Saturday’s finals where she finished 3rd sprinting 12.06 sec.

As the lead off leg of the 4×100 relay team, they shattered the school record on Friday in 46.89 sec making the team the top seed advancing to the finals. The relay team finished 3rd in the finals with a 46.96 sec.

Altoona graduate JP Duffy won both of his matches; 4 and 2 vs. Theil, and 1 up vs. Grove City to lead Saint Vincent College to the Championship of the SVC Invitational. It was retro tournament for the Saint Vincent players as they played using 1970’s era wooden drivers and fairway woods.
