MacKenzie Keiper: Waynesburg softball
Name: MacKenzie Keiper
High school: Central Cambria
Hometown: Jackson Township
Positions: First base, outfield
College choice: Waynesburg
Other colleges considered: Juniata, Hilbert, Pitt-Bradford
Why I picked Waynesburg: “I chose Waynesburg because of their reputation of having an excellent forensic science program and a challenging curriculum. I also like the campus and the fact that it is a reasonable distance from home. Coach (Richelle) Hall is an amazing person, and I was impressed with the way she worked with me and interacted with her players.
Greatest high school achievement: Achieving Honor Roll all four years of high school. Lettering in softball and being a part of the two-time District 6 champion team for tennis.
Coach Jamie Mazzarella’s quote: “Mackenzie is a leader on and off the field. The younger players really look up to her. She respects her teammates and pushes them to be better. She is an extremely hard worker, which will allow her to transition to the next level. She is a huge part of our team and will definitely be missed.”
How I got my start playing softball: “I really didn’t even have an interest in playing softball when I was little. My sister started to get good, and I wanted to be better than her and that’s how I got my start.”
Favorite college growing up: LSU
Other interests: Tennis
What playing in college means to me: “Playing in college means a lot to me. I have worked very hard the past five years to achieve this goal, and I am proud of myself. I know that my parents and coaches are proud of me, as well.”
