C-K, Glendale could meet again

A year ago, Claysburg-Kimmel and Glendale faced off for the District 6 Class 1A softball championships.

It looks like the Inter-County Conference North Division rivals might be on a collision course for a rematch.

The Lady Bulldogs and Lady Vikings are seeded one-two in the upcoming district tournament, District 6 announced on Friday afternoon.

The playoffs open on Wednesday with games in Class 6A, 5A and 4A. The smaller-school classifications open the postseason on May 21.

Claysburg took both regular season games from Glendale in 2017, but the Lady Vikings won the game that won the most: the D6 final at Penn State. This year’s championship games, though, will be held at Saint Francis University.

The teams split a doubleheader earlier this week. Both will get a bye into the semifinals. Glendale, the second seed, will be hosting another team from the Mirror coverage area in the penultimate round — the Lady Vikings draw the winner of the quarterfinal between third-seeded Bishop Carroll and sixth-seeded Moshannon Valley.

Philipsburg-Osceola was the only other team from the Mirror coverage area to garner a top seed. The Lady Mounties will shoot for a third consecutive D6 title from the No. 1 spot in Class 3A; P-O won 3A last year and District 6 2A in 2016.

The Lady Mounties open with a quarterfinal home game against Tyrone. In the semifinals, P-O or Tyrone could meet up with Penn Cambria, the fifth seed.

In the other half of the 3A bracket, Cambria Heights entertains Central in a 6-vs.-3 clash.

Altoona and Hollidaysburg both entered the playoffs and drew the No. 3 seed in Class 6A and 5A, respectively. The Lady Lions travel to State College on Wednesday. Hollidaysburg treks to DuBois that day.

The finals in 6A, 5A and 4A will be played on May 23. Those is 3A, 2A and 1A will be on May 30.
