Bison duo fall short of D5 title

BEDFORD — Windber’s Matthew Kozar defeated Bedford players in the semifinals and finals to capture the District 5 boys tennis singles championship on Monday at Bedford Area High School.

Kozar was a 6-1, 6-2 victor over Caleb Beidle in the championship match. In the semis, Kozar defeated defending district champ Jess Hampton, 10-2.

Beidle made it to the finals by dispatching Windber’s Nathan Beidle, 10-1, in the quarterfinals and Somerset’s Logan Peters, 10-3, in the semifinals. Hampton was a 10-0 winner against Adam Lorence of Somerset in the quarterfinals.

Both of Tussey Mountain’s competitors — Devon Reed and Travis Lemin — were ousted in the quarterfinals. Reed lost to Kozar, 10-0, while Lemin fell to Peters, 10-7.

Lions take two

DuBOIS — John Keating and Casey Rispoli won a pair of singles matches at Altoona swept a doubleheader at DuBois, 5-2 and 7-0.

Jarod Marasco and Nick Schimminger each one a singles match and were on a victorious doubles team for the Mountain Lions.

Jonah Brandt and Ben Warren won singles matches for Altoona. Colby Bickel, Reece McDermitt, Ethan Katcher, Jarrett Schmidhammer, Ivan Koehle and Major Greaser were among those involved in winning doubles matches for the Lions.

Tigers stay perfect

HUNTINGDON — The Hollidaysburg boys tennis team improved to 14-0 , thanks to a 6-1 win over Huntingdon.

The Golden Tigers got singles wins from Anthony Menard, Will Tyndall, John Rose, Jake Irwin and Brian Johnson. They also got a doubles victory from the team of Tyndall and Rose.

Huntingdon got a doubles win from the team of Peter Kruse and Brandt Sliver.

Bearcats top BG

HUNTINGDON — Peter Kruse and Brandt Sliver won in singles, while Jonathan Basom and Pierce Hunter-Kysor teamed for one doubles win in Huntingdon’s 4-1 victory over Bishop Guilfoyle.

Ryan Talko triumphed at No. 1 singles for Guilfoyle’s only team point.
