Tyrone netters best Tussey

TYRONE — Ethan Vipond, Paul Lemaire, Caden Brooks, Brandon Kemp and Hunter Reese helped Tyrone sweep the singles competition in a 6-1 triumph over Tussey Mountain in high school boys tennis action on Friday afternoon.

Andrew Lang and Tyler Eaken teamed up to win a doubles match for the Golden Eagles.

The Titans got a win at No. 1 doubles from Riley Gresko and Kieran Gresko.

Altoona third

LEBANON — Altoona’s boys tennis team finished third at the Falcon Invitational hosted by Cedar Crest High School.

Central Dauphin defeated the Mountain Lions, 3-2, in the semifinals and went on to beat Red Lion, 5-0, in the championship.

Altoona defeated Cedar Crest, 4-1, in the third place match.

John Keating and Jarrett Schmidhammer won doubles matches in both contests for the Mountain Lions.


Lion spikers sweep

The Altoona boys volleyball team improved to 7-1 thanks to a 25-18, 33-31, 26-24 win over Saegertown in high school action at the AAHS Fieldhouse.

The Mountain Lions got 20 digs and 18 kills from Phil Swartz to go with 16 assists from Masen Nartatez. Chris Ball added 21 assists to go with Zach Gibbons’ eight service points.

Seagertown got 40 assists from Raef Rhoades to go with 20 kills from Will Phelan.
