Northern has six double winners in opening meet

LOYSBURG — Cadin Ebersole won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, Ian Zimmerman won the 800- and 1600-meter runs, and Nic Wilburn captured the 110 and 300 hurdles for Northern Bedford as the boys opened the high school track and field season with wins over West Branch (82-66) and Fannett-Metal (92-53) on Thursday.

The Northern Bedford girls topped West Branch, 104-46, and Fannett-Metal, 114-29.

Aylisa Morral won the 100 and 200 dashes for Northern, Mackenzie Gates won both hurdles, and Sadie McConnell won the long and triple jumps.

Tigers take two

HOLLIDAYSBURG — A quartet of Hollidaysburg girls won two individual events apiece to power the Lady Tigers over Huntingdon, 97-51.

Aly Snyder won the 100 and 300 hurdles, Allison Barton won the 400 and 800, Darcie Frazier captured the 100 and the long jump, and Olivia Wright finished first in the discus and the javelin for Hollidaysburg, which improved to 3-1.

Huntingdon’s Jordan Hawkins won the 1600 and 3200.

Hollidaysburg defeated Huntingdon, 124-25, in boys. Kyle Basal won the high jump, long jump and triple jump for the Golden Tigers. Hollidaysburg’s Dan Molliver captured the 200 and 400.

Blue Devils sweep

BELLWOOD — The Bellwood-Antis boys rolled past Juniata Valley, 137-13, and Southern Fulton, 108-42.

Clay Engle won the high, long and triple jumps for Bellwood, Dylan Wilson won both hurdles, and Shawn Wolfe won the 100 and 200 dashes.

Southern Fulton topped Valley, 115-35.

The Juniata Valley girls edged Bellwood-Antis on the second tiebreaker.

Both teams finished with 75 points, but Juniata Valley had 10 first-place finishes and Bellwood’s eight to win the meet. Southern Fulton beat both, 91-58 over Bellwood and 81-69 over Valley.

Bellwood-Antis’ Alexis Gerwert broke her own record in the pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 2 inches. JV’s Taylor Leidy won 100 and 200 dashes, 100 hurdles and long jump, Halee Smith won the 300 hurdles and triple jump, and Mary Wilson won the shot and discus.

Portage drops opener

BERLIN — Despite Blake Oravecz victories in the 100 and 200, the Portage boys were edged out by Berlin Brothersvalley, 75-73, in a WestPAC meet that was the season-opener for both schools.

The Lady Mustangs fell by a 111-33 count but produced a pair of double winners: Kasey Chobany in the 400 and 800 and Caitlyn Papcun in the 100 and 200.

Tussey sinks Pirates

SAXTON — Tussey Mountain topped Williamsburg, 84-41, behind wins from Evan Germaux in the 100- and 200-meter dash, in high school boys competition.

The Titans fell to Southern Huntingdon, 87-62.

The Lady Titans topped Williamsburg, 75-40, and fell to Southern Huntingdon, 90-55. The Lady Rockets defeated the Lady Pirates, 118-24.

Everett girls split

McCONNELLSBURG — The Everett girls topped Mount Union, 110-40, but lost to McConnellsburg, 93-57, while getting wins from Kaitlyn Maxwell in the 100- and 400-meter dashes and the 800 run and Stefanie Ketterman in the long jump, triple jump and the high jump.

In boys action, Mount Union edged Everett, 77-73. McConnellsburg topped the Warriors, 90-60, and topped Mount Union, 86-64.

The Warriors had three double winners. Alex Calhoun won the 1600 and 3200, Bryson Clingerman captured the triple jump and high jump, and Nathaniel Maxwell won the 400 dash and the 800 run.
