Mountain Lions take care of Central
The Altoona boys volleyball team improved to 6-1 Thursday night, thanks to a 25-11, 25-11, 25-15 win over Central in high school action at the Fieldhouse.
The Mountain Lions got 21 digs and nine kills from Phil Swartz to go with 15 assists from Chis Ball, 16 digs from Dalton Keller and 11 digs from Nick Snyder. Marsen Nartatez added seven assists.
Central got four blocks from Doug Shade, four kills from Alec Madden and five assists from Nathan Earnest.

Marauders roll
RURAL VALLEY — Charles Patterson’s 17 kills set Bishop Guilfoyle up for a smooth night, defeating West Shamokin in straight sets, 25-20, 28-26, 25-12 in boys high school volleyball action.
Vincent Good tallied 38 assists for the 6-2 Marauders, while Michael Burke added 10 digs and Tyler Rumbaugh had 10 kills and four aces.

Altoona sweeps
LANCASTER — Altoona made the long trip worth it with a 5-0 shutout of Conestoga Valley in boys high school tennis action.
Jonah Brandt, Jarod Marasco, and Casey Rispoli were singles winners for the Mountain Lions (5-2), while the teams of John Keating and Jarrett Schmidhammer, and Ben Warren and Andrew Dixon won doubles.

BELLWOOD — It was a good day for the Bellwood-Antis boys and girls track and field teams.
Shawn Wolfe won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and ran a leg of Bellwood-Antis’ winning 400- and 1600-relay teams as the Blue Devil boys defeated Southern Huntingdon, 92-58.
Clay Engle won the triple jump and long jump for Bellwood, while Chris Wertman won the shot put, Braden Heisler took the javelin, and Dominick Faith took the pole vault.
On the girls side, Kamryn Mercer won the long, high and triple jump while Brianna Focht took first in the 100 and 200, and was a part of the winning 400 relay team. Jenna Bartlett also won the 1600 and 3200.
