Huntingdon wins own tourney

H.S. softball

HUNTINGDON — Huntingdon beat Williamsburg, 13-0, in five innings in the opener and Hollidaysburg, 11-2, in the finals to win its own tournament in high school softball on Saturday.

In the opener, the Lady Bearcats (2-4) scored all 13 runs in the first three innings. Chrislyn Patrick had two hits and three RBIs, while winning pitcher Catherine Miller added two hits and two RBIs. She also struck out eight, walked one and gave up two hits. Teammate Leah Reed added two hits and two RBIs.

In the final, a five-run sixth inning was big for Huntingdon. Hannah Heintzelman added two hits and two RBIs, while Miller finished with four RBIs and three hits. She also got another win with 11 strikeouts and just three walks while giving up two hits.

Hollidaysburg (1-4) beat Juniata Valley, 10-8, to get to the finals. The winners scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn the victory.

Kaitlyn Capella had three hits to lead the Lady Tigers, who also got two hits each out of Zoie Estep and Jordynn Robertson. Juniata Valley got home runs from Brooke Boonie, Paige Beam and Sadie Morgan. Boonie and Kady Belinda each had three hits for the Lady Hornets.

Williamsburg won the consolation game, 8-2, over Juniata Valley.

BELLWOOD — Cate Baran struck out 10, walked no one and scattered four hits in leading Tyrone to a win at Bellwood-Antis.

The Lady Eagles, who scored four runs in the third to break a 1-1 tie, got two RBIs each from Grace Gensimore and Emily Hamer. Baran helped out her own cause with two hits, an RBI and two run scored. Madison Coleman added two hits.

Bellwood got its lone RBI from Jestelynn Heaton.

PATTON — Cambria Heights improved to 4-0, thanks to a win over Penn Cambria in Laurel Highlands Athletic Conference action.

Emma Stockley hit a two-run homer and Charlotte Farabaugh, who had two hits, also homered. Winning pitcher Abby Lobick struck out six and walked no one.

Penn Cambria (3-1) lost its first LHAC game since 2016.
