Hollidaysburg sweeps singles action in win

VALENCIA — Hollidaysburg defeated North Allegheny, 3-1, by sweeping the singles competition with wins from Rami Alkhafaji, Rohan Gupta and Anthony Menard in high school boys tennis Wednesday at the Lakevue Racquet Club.

SINGLES: 1, Alkhafaji, H, def. Hoffman, 6-2, 6-3; 2, Gupta, H, def. Voiniv, 4-6, 6-4, 11-9; 3, Menard, H, def. A. Chuirazzi, 6-2, 6-1.

DOUBLES: 1, M. Chuirazzi-Huang, NA, def. Viduya-Auerbeck, 3-6, 6-3, 10-5. 2, Not completed.

Records: North Allegheny (4-1); Hollidaysburg (8-0).

Dragons swept

RURAL VALLEY — West Shamokin won its first match of the young season, sweeping the Central Dragons at home 25-23, 25-22, 25-17 in high school boys volleyball action Wednesday night.

Central’s Kaven Gahagen led the Dragons with seven kills, while teammate Doug Shade added seven blocks and Alec Madden led the team in service points with eight.

In addition, Madden had six kills and four blocks. Central fell to 0-4.

SERVICE POINTS

CENTRAL: Madden 8, Laufle 6, Gahagen 3, Earnest 3, Moyer 2, Shade 1.

Records: Central (0-4); West Shamokin (1-2).

All-Star games

Altoona seniors Shaina Lear and Kayley Burke will play for the PA All Stars against the Capital Area squad at 7:15 p.m. on Friday at the 43rd annual PA vs. Maryland All-Star weekend.

Tussey Mountain’s L.J. Waters will play the same night at 8:30 for the PA boys stars. Waters will also play Saturday afternoon for PA North in a game against PA South.

Blairsville’s Rena Enterline, who the Central PA’s outstanding player in the Altoona Mirror Basketball Classic, will play for the Pennsylvania All-Stars at 7:15 on Saturday.

All of the games will be held at the Harrisburg Christian Athletic Center.
