Hollidaysburg rugby team has solid showing

HOLLIDAYSBURG — The Blair United/Hollidaysburg Rugby club defeated North Pitt United Rugby Club, 31-12, this past Sunday.

Facing off against a conference opponent, the local team scored the first two tries with long runs by Gus Dellinger and Trent Paddock, and a conversion by Chris Neff, to go into the lead 12-0. The North Pitt team, comprised of players from several schools in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, fought back to score a try, which was converted to close the scoring, 12-7.

Hollidaysburg junior Mason McCready punched in his first try of the year with a bruising 5-yard run, which was converted by Dellinger. Altoona seniors Jailin Rhodes and Ray Corl used their experience to guide the team to two more scores by Dellinger and Paddock to cap the scoring.

Blair United (2-2) has a week off before traveling to Kiski Valley on April 29 for another match.


Dan Kelly, Saint Benedict, scored a hole-in-one on the 86-yard par 3 third hole at the Shenvalee Golf Resort in New Market, Va., on April 11.

He used an 8-iron, and the witnesses were Sam DeYulis and Ben Wagner.
