Evans finishes in 13th place

LEWISBURG — Hollidaysburg’s Shani Evans earned a 13th-place finish in the PIAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday night at Bucknell University.

Evans, a senior, swam a time of 1 minute, 5.23 seconds in the finals of the Class 3A 100-yard breaststroke to earn the No. 13 spot among 32 swimmers. She had swum a 1:05.15 in the prelims earlier Thursday to advance to the final. Her prelim time had put her in the 14th spot with 16 advancing to the finals.

Avon Grove senior Olivia Paoletti won the event with a time of 1:01.65.

The 3A portion of the four-day event wrapped up Thursday with the Class 2A events set for today and Saturday. Huntingdon Area has four girls and four boys competing in 2A.

JV, BC in doubleheader

The Juniata Valley and Bishop Carroll girls basketball teams have become familiar with each other the last two seasons, and they’ll get to see each other again on Saturday.

The teams, which met in the last two District 6 Class 1A championship games and last year’s PIAA Class 1A semifinals, will play in a doubleheader at Armstrong High School in Kittanning on Saturday in the PIAA quarterfinals.

Bishop Carroll, the District 6 runner-up, will face District 10 champion Kennedy Catholic at 1 p.m., and Juniata Valley, the District 6 champ, meets District 10 runner-up Farrell at 2:30 p.m.

The winner of the two games will face each other in the PIAA semifinals on Tuesday.

In another game involving a District 6 team, the Richland boys will face District 10 champ Fairview in the PIAA Class 3A game at North Hills High School in Pittsburgh at 4 p.m. Richland is the District 6 runner-up.
