PSU hockey team falls to No 2 Notre Dame

UNIVERSITY PARK — A three-point night by junior alternate captain Chase Berger wasn’t enough as No. 17 Penn State dropped a 5-3 contest against No. 2 Notre Dame in Big Ten Conference men’s hockey action Friday at Pegula Ice Arena.

The loss dropped the Nittany Lions to 13-12-4 and 6-9-4-2 in the Big Ten, while the Irish improved to 21-5-1 overall and 15-2-0-0 in conference action.

Penn State fired 50-plus shots on net for the fourth time this season as it held the 51-37 advantage in shots, but went 0-for-2 with the man-advantage while Notre Dame capitalized on its lone power-play.

The two teams turn right back around this afternoon and close out the regular-season series with a 4 p.m. puck drop.
