Laster leads Lady Lions to win
The Penn State Altoona women’s basketball team improved to 3-3 Wednesday night, thanks to an 83-37 win over Franciscan in collegiate action at the Adler Arena.
Ijonana Laster’s 17 points were tops for the Lady Lions, who led, 17-7 after one quarter. However, a 26-7 showing in the second quarter put the game out of reach. Megan Wheeler added 15 points and 14 rebounds to go with 14 points from Shannon Zimmerman and 12 points from Alexis Cannistraci.
Franciscan got 15 points from Rebekah Nevarez.
The Lady Lions host Medaille College Saturday.
Balance key to Nittany Lion victory
Thanks to a balanced effort on offense, the Penn State Altoona men’s basketball team improved to 5-3 overall Wednesday night, thanks to a 91-49 victory over Franciscan in collegiate action at the Adler Arena.
Austin Krise came off the bench to score 14 points for the Lions, who led, 35-14, at halftime. Teammate Rich Bouknight added 13 points as Franciscan fell to 0-7 overall. Ishimeal Nance rounded out the scoring with 12 points and seven rebounds.
Juwan Perkins led Franciscan with 11 points.
Penn State Altoona hosts Medaille College on Saturday.
Lady Mounties above .500 mark
CRESSON — The Mount Aloysius women’s basketball team improved to 3-2 Wednesday night, thanks to a 66-49 win over Pitt-Greensburg in collegiate action.
The Lady Mounties, who used a 17-6 showing in the fourth quarter to pull away for a victory, got 19 points from Breana Kendrick while teammate Abby Kulick added 14 points.
Jessa Wright contributed 13 points and nine rebounds for the winners, who led, 34-31, at halftime.
Nadege Durand led Pitt-Greensburg (1-5) with 18 points.
The Lady Mounties host Penn State Behrend on Saturday.
Pitt-Greensburg takes care of Mount
CRESSON — Despite 19 points from Julian Stover and 17 more points from Josiah Jones, the Mount Aloysius men’s basketball team dropped a 73-70 decision at home to Pitt-Greensburg Wednesday night in collegiate action.
Pitt-Greensburg, which led, 32-26, at hlaftime, got 17 points each from Jay Grubb and Joe Mancini.
The Mounties fell to 1-4 while Pitt-Greensburg improved to 2-4. The Mount hosts Penn State Behrend on Saturday.
