Schatz holds off competition down stretch

PORT ROYAL — Donny Schatz passed Port Royal Speedway track champion Brock Zearfoss on lap 18 and survived a late charge from Lance Dewease to extend his points lead atop the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series point standings on his way to his 19th win of the season.

Dewease and Daryn Pittman completed the podium.

Rick Hulson led the first six laps of the Mid-Atlantic modified main before Mike Altobelli took over to speed to the victory.

Hulson would finish second with Dan Davies ending up third. By finishing fourth in the main, Brad Kling secured the 2017 Mid-Atlantic modified series title.

Susquehanna

YORK HAVEN — It’s been a good two weeks in Central Pennsylvania for South Egremont, Mass. racer Kyle Smith.

Smith dominated Saturday night’s 20-lap Freedmont® Mortgage Lending PASS/IMCA sprint car feature at Susquehanna Speedway as he visited victory lane for the first time ever at the York Haven oval.

Smith’s win backs up his big win a week earlier in IMCA Sprint action at nearby Port Royal.

Four first-time season winners also emerged Saturday night as Bobby Beard won the Bernheisel Race Cars 358 late models.

Randy Zechman took the win in the Morgan Paving/Aqua Fun Pools street stocks, Bill Powell won the Superior Homes extreme stocks and Robbie Carroll got the win in the road warriors.

Clinton County

MILL HALL — Andrew Yoder of Middleburg scored his biggest paycheck in his racing career by winning the super late model special on Saturday night at the Clinton County Motor Speedway over a stellar field of 51 drivers that signed in for the special racing program.

Other winners included Shaun Lawton of Bloomsburg in the pro stocks, Chris Anderson, of Rockhill Furance in the FWD four-cylinders and Dave Hawkins of Lower Burrell in the 270-micro sprints.

The races closed out the 2017 racing season.
